about

"We are taught to separate the erotic demand
from most vital areas of our lives other than sex ,"
says Lorde, responding directly to some
currents of anti-erotic feminist theory, in which
butch-femme is often construed as crude
imitation of heterosexual sex roles, despite its
existence outside and beyond the sexual. The
Sexual as separate from other spheres of life is
a foundational division in the same vein as
nature/culture-and it serves a purpose-this
segmentation of life is implicit in the form,
produced by the same discourses that split and
deaden forms of life.The male-designed"erotic"
space- the sexual sphere is one of limitation
prohibition, one confined to socially acceptable
location, often the bedroom, alway the
domestic, the private. The erotic is also a
byproduct of this ideology of segmentation,
however, it is conceived as waste, shoved to the
side, an obscured point of unity (like Wittig's
appraisal of womanhood) through which we can
find allies, develop strategical modes of
resistance , lines of fight.
